Top 10 Rock Stars of All Time and Why We Loved ThemApril 14, 2020
From sold-out albums and arenas to inexplicably changing lives forever, these greats have impacted culture, fashion and time itself. It was nearly impossible to narrow down a list like this one, but we really tried. So, let’s pay homage to these rock stars.
1. Elvis Presley
The man is known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll for a reason. Music aside, he was otherworldly. His confidence. His style. His charm. Elvis was a single man whose mere presence was able to send people into a metaphysical state. If you’re a big fan, the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast has encapsulated the King’s sparkly gold suit and tie that he purchased from Mr. Ray’s in Palm Springs, California. It’s truly worth the view.
2. John Lennon
John found a way to inject a soft side into the world of rock ‘n’ roll and earned his legend status for more than his music. He was eloquent, intelligent and challenged listeners. A John Lennon signed a publishing agreement with Maclen Music Ltd. and Northern Songs Ltd. for the composition “Revolution 9” has been preserved at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast. The agreement is signed by John Lennon and Neil Aspinall and housed in a frame with a black and white image of John Lennon.
3. Paul McCartney
Paul brought a headiness to rock ‘n’ roll, and a musical approach that was inspired by the greats. Paul also threw down when it came to the most rock-inspired vocals. Give an ear to “Hey Jude,” and you know you are listening to one of the greatest rock ballads of all time.
Nirvana was an American rock band formed by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting and best-known being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important alternative bands in history.
5. Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix was quintessentially rock ‘n’ roll. He did some time in the military, gigged around as a backing musician, then melted people’s minds and souls with his progressive guitar style. Make like Jimi and reserve your choice of one of the 20 Fender® guitars at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast rock out at your very own jam session. It comes with a Marshall headphone and a Fender® Mustang floor amplifier – to create a pop-up studio right in your room. Novice rockers can take advantage of the in-room video lessons!
6. David Bowie
Looking back at his career, David Bowie is precisely what an aspiring rock star should consider as a paradigm. He always pushed the envelope. At his essence, he was a true creative and a master storyteller. David Bowie was one of the most influential and prolific writers and performers of popular music, but he was much more than that; he was also an accomplished actor, a mime and an intellectual, as well as an art lover whose appreciation and knowledge of it had led to him amassing one of the biggest collections of 20th-century art.
7. Linkin Park
Linkin Park combined both 90s grunge and emerging nu-metal influences with added hip hop elements and proceeded to conquer the world nearly overnight with what they called their ‘Hybrid Theory’. Also the title of their first album released in 2000 by the group consisting of Mike Shinoda (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards) and Brad Delson (guitar, bass), Chester Bennington (lead vocals), Joe Hahn (turntables, sampling) and Rob Bourdon (drums). The bass drum head that was used on stage by Rob is on display at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast.
Madonna released eleven blockbuster studio albums to date and is the world’s top-selling female recording artist ever. The queen of reinvention, she has endlessly reworked her image and style, affecting our culture in myriad, rippling ways. A pair of rhinestone-studded sandals worn by the one and only Madonna when she was promoting her hit single “Hung Up” in New York City can be viewed at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast.
AC/DC has over 200 million records worldwide, including 71.5 million albums in the United States alone, adding them to the list of highest-certified music artists in the US and the list of best-selling music artists. “Back in Black” has sold an estimated 50 million units worldwide, making it the second-highest-selling album by any artist – and the highest-selling album by any band. AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 10 March 2003.
Aerosmith is the best-selling American hard rock band of all time, having sold more than 150 million records worldwide, including over 70 million records in the United States alone. With 25 gold albums, 18 platinum albums, and 12 multi-platinum albums, they hold the record for the most total certifications by an American band and are tied for the most multi-platinum albums by an American band.
