The Top Five Moments from Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife’s Grand Opening Party

Europe welcomed its second Hard Rock Hotel property this past weekend following a glamorous opening party and concert dubbed “Children of the 80s,” featuring performances by Village People, Blackbox, C+C Music Factory, Rozalla and DJ trio Dream Team Reload.

The open-air concert brought guests from all over the world and helped to usher in the new five-star resort set against the backdrop of the Canary Islands. To reflect on this momentous occasion, here are the top five memories from the Grand Opening of Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife:

In keeping with tradition of launches of all Hard Rock Hotels, the night started off with a ten second countdown followed by key figures in the development of Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife being called to the stage to perform the ceremonious “guitar smash.”

Abel Matutes Juan, President of Grupo Empresas Matutes, his son Abel Matutes Prats, CEO of Palladium Hotel Group, Jon Lucas, EVP Hotel & Casino Operations at Hard Rock International, Alberto Bernabé and Carlos Alonso from the Tenerife government, and Ermitas Moreira from the Adeje city council, each took part in the smashing of a guitar on stage to pay homage to the rock rebels that represent the Hard Rock brand.

After two successful seasons at Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, the high-energy, nostalgia-charged Children of the 80’s had its inaugural event and kicked off Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife’s exciting entertainment calendar of live concerts and events.

With African artist, Rozalla, making history as the first performer to play the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife stage, the night of flashback classics continued with Italian trio Blackbox rocking out with hits from their 1989 best-selling album, “Ride on Time.”

As the good vibes continued, guests were further transported back in time by Freedom Williams of C+C Music Factory performing hits such as “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and “Things That Make You Go Hmmmm.”

The DJ trio Dream Team Reload kept the energy at its peak in between sets, with disco-era champions, Village People, closing out the night in stellar form, complete with their distinctive costumes and signature dance moves. The headlining set featured all of the sextet’s popular hits including “Y.M.C.A.,” “In the Navy” and “Macho Man.”

For those that missed out on the premier bash, you’ll be happy to know that Children of the 80s parties will be a monthly occurrence at the new property.

Guests from all over the island, and the world, came to join in the celebration and helped to elevate the spirit of the occasion by donning glammed-out hairstyles, apparel and accessories of the decade. Some even went as far as to copy the look of their favorite icons such as Boy George, Madonna and Freddie Mercury.

To wrap up the Grand Opening Party, Fireworks lit up the Tenerife coastline of Playa Paraiso. As the spectacular display illuminated the newly opened property against its stunning backdrop, it was the perfect end to a moment we’ll always cherish.
