Where to Travel in MayApril 13, 2019
It’s no surprise that many choose May as their month to get away. Spring is in full swing, and summer is so close you can feel it — especially when you’re out under the sun. The blissful May weather across North America means there’s a lot going on to inspire your next vacation. We’ve searched high and low for the best destinations to ensure your spring vacation is a breath of fresh air.
Catch the Best of Los Cabos
May is perhaps the best month for visiting beautiful Los Cabos, the sun-kissed resort destination at the tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. The area sees its biggest crowds during winter and spring-break season, so coming in May means you’ll avoid the bustle, as well as the summer rains. The average temperature for May is 79 degrees (does it get any better?), and the month usually sees just two days of rainfall.
Experience Fleet Week in NYC
Held nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week is a celebration of America’s Navy, Coast Guard, and Marines. The event gives the public a chance to meet the country’s sailors, tour active ships, and get a first-hand look at the capabilities of today’s maritime services. Events range from the opening Parade of Ships to a special screening of “Top Gun” on the deck of the USS Intrepid.

Spot Whales in Vancouver
Vancouver is an excellent destination for whale watching, with a wide variety of species passing through the adjacent Strait of Georgia every year. The season runs from March – October, but visiting at the right time gives you a chance to maximize the types of whales you might see. While humpback whales can be spotted during most of the season, the end of gray-whale migration and the beginning of Orca migration overlap in May, making it one of the best months to go.
Jazz It Up in NOLA
JazzFest is already the nation’s most celebrated jazz festival, but the fact that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the event makes it all the more special. It’s not just about the music either — the festival is a celebration of all Louisiana and New Orleans culture, making May the perfect month to experience the cuisine, art, and personality that make this city famous.
